False Application of Emergency Brake in Infiniti JX35 Prompts Investigation

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into model year 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles following reports of false application of the emergency braking system.

The NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received two complaints of false application of emergency braking in 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In both complaints, the consumers allege that the intelligent brake assist system inappropriately activated emergency braking autonomously bringing the vehicle to an immediate and complete stop.

Both complaints also alleged experiencing multiple events in the same locations and road conditions. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened by ODI to assess the cause, scope and frequency of the alleged defect.

At the conclusion of this evaluation, ODI will determine if additional steps need to be taken, including a potential recall of the JX35 vehicles in question.
