It all started with a back patio get together, a 1966 lemon MG sedan and a repossessed trailer.  More than a year later on March 7, 1968, a group of twenty-five consumers disappointed by the lack of consumer representation in North Carolina incorporated the North Carolina Consumers Council (NCCC), a group dedicated to promoting consumer awareness, consumer education and consumer protection in North Carolina.

Your membership supports out efforts in accomplishing our mission. While we work to promote the interests of all consumers, we give our members a little something extra as our way thanking them for their support. We really couldn't do anything without our members! All benefits and services are free with your membership. You will receive details with your confirmation. Do you have questions about a confirmation email, letter or postcard?

 

Credit Union Membership

Your membership gives you eligibility to join Coastal Federal Credit Union, Members Credit Union, Premier Federal Credit Union, Lorillard Federal Credit Union, Carolina Federal Credit Union, Freedom Credit Union and Carolina Postal Credit Union. You must apply for credit union membership separately.

As soon as you receive your membership confirmation, you are eligible for credit union membership. Simply provide your Member ID when applying for membership with any of our credit union partners. They will be able to verify your membership instantly. Don't want to wait? You may also apply for credit union membership and NCCC membership at the same time in any partner credit union branch.

Not planning to take advantage of credit union membership? Take a moment to see why credit unions are really good for the consumer and you might change your mind! The great rates are a bonus, too!

Special Discounts and Offers for Members Only

The Member Discount Program helps to connect NCCC members with small businesses across North Carolina who have agreed to offer them discounts, specials and promotions! Small businesses are the backbone of the marketplace and provide many needed jobs for the communities they serve. So it only makes sense to try to connect our members with the brick and mortar businesses of our communities!

You may use your membership for special discounts and deals at participating businesses. If your favorite local business wants to be included, feel free to send us a message letting us know about the opportunity and we will work to get them on board!




 

Notifications of Auto Recalls and Defect Investigations

A recall may be issued for your vehicle today.  But will you learn about it in time to prevent a nut, bolt or electrical component from causing serious damage, injury or death? That's where the Auto Recall Alert Service comes in for our members!

When a recall is issued, it is matched against all of the vehicles in our database. If it might be involved in the recall campaign, we will notify you with the important next steps you should take to verify your eligibility for free repairs.

As an added benefit, NCCC now notifies members of pending defective investigations for their vehicles that could take years to result in a recall. We believe that everyone has a right to know!

Current members can simply contact us to add information for up to three vehicles to their accounts.

Most consumers see drops in telemarketing calls within thirty days.

Current members can enroll by email or mail stating their request. Be sure to include your member ID, full address and telephone number.

Most consumers see drops in junk mail within ninety days.

'Do Not SPAM Email' Registry Signup

As a courtesy to our members, NCCC will register email addresses on a third-party Email Preference Service. Registration on this list will help to reduce the number of emails members receive from legitimate companies that use this service.

NCCC will register as a courtesy any member's primary email address. You will receive a separate confirmation email with a link you must click to activate the service. There is no charge for members.

Every Door Direct Mail Opt Out

As a courtesy to our members, NCCC will register your mailing address to opt out of Every Door Direct Mail used by the United States Postal Service. These advertisements come to your home without an address or may be labeled as "Postal Customer." Registration may help reduce the number of direct mail solicitations you receive by removing your address from mailers that use this service.

NCCC will register as a courtesy any member's mailing address. There is no charge for members.

Complaint Filing Services

You really do work hard to make it through the day! We understand how stressful life can be when something just doesn't turn out the way it was planned. As such, we're working on bringing you a members-only complaint filing service, the Gripe Vine.

This service takes the guesswork out of filing your complaints. When you have a consumer issue and you need to file a complaint with a government agency, let us know! We'll get some basic information from you and take care of filing the complaint with the appropriate government agencies on your behalf. Say goodbye to typing your information repeatedly into forms. You'll give us the information ONCE and we'll take care of the filing work for you!

In addition to offering member benefits and services, NCCC offers a number of benefits and services for everyone! That simply means that anyone anywhere can take advantage of some of the benefits we have to offer!

Lawyer Referral Program


The NCCC Lawyer Referral Program offers you a listing of attorneys in North Carolina who have affirmed their commitment to consumer protection and consumer rights. Including only those lawyers who have no pubic disciplinary actions with the North Carolina State bar, this program will assist consumers in locating legal advice. Many of the attorneys who are part of this program offer free consultations with no upfront commitment whatsoever. Give one of these lawyers a call to see if they can help you!

Complaint Resolution and Advice


NCCC offers general complaint resolution advice and referrals to government agencies for additional assistance. We are not able to give legal advice, but are able to guide you to the resources you may need.

Newsletters and Online News Feeds


NCCC publishes newsletters monthly. Members can request paper copies of future newsletters at any time. Since it is impossible to publish all of the latest and greatest news in one single newsletter, we recommend that you get daily news online instantly via Facebook or LinkedIn. That way, you can see what's going on around you AND show your support at the same time. Every like or follow we receive is a job well done in our book!
