Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has issued a recall for minivans with faulty airbags.

The announcement applies to certain model year 2009 Dodge Journey, 2008-2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country, and 2009 Volkswagen Routan vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the airbag control units may corrode and fail.

If the airbag control unit fails, the airbags may not deploy in the event of a crash or the airbags may inadvertently deploy.

FCA is including about 112,000 minivans in this recall.

The automaker will notify owners, and dealers will replace the airbag control unit, free of charge. A notification schedule has not yet been provided.
