The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into certain model year 2013 BMW 328i vehicles.

The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received four consumer complaints alleging incidents of hard brake pedal, increased braking effort and increased stopping distances in the affected BMW 328i vehicles.

Three of the complaints indicate that the repairing dealer diagnosed a problem with the vehicle's vacuum pump.

A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and safety-related consequence of the alleged defect. This investigation could affect an estimated 90,000 BMW 3-Series vehicles.

The Vehicle Owner's Questionnaires (VOQs) associated with the opening of this investigation can be viewed online under the following identification (ODI) numbers: 10525548, 10525011, 10521697, and 10514428.
