Alleged Steering Loss in Ford F-Series Trucks Under Investigation
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into several model year 2008 Ford trucks.
NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 5 complaints alleging an internal failure of the steering gear box resulting in a complete loss of steering control in 2008 F-250, F-350 and Super Duty trucks.
One complainant alleges the loss of steering resulted in the vehicle crashing into a parked vehicle. A second complaint alleges failure of the steering gear box resulted in a roadway departure at 35 mph.
A Preliminary Evaluation (PE) has been opened to gather information and assess whether the subject vehicles do in fact contain a safety related defect.
