Amazon Raises Cost of Prime Membership to $99 Per Year
Amazon is raising the price of its Prime membership to $99 per year, up from the current $79.
The price hike will apply to Amazon users when they renew their Prime membership. Prime members who renew their membership before April 17, 2014 will pay the current rate of $79 for the year. After April 17, the price goes up to $99.
New customers that begin the free Amazon Prime trial between now and March 20, 2014 will also lock in the $79 rate for their first year of Prime membership.
Amazon Prime offers users free two-day shipping on 20 million products sold on Amazon.com.
While the company won't say how many Prime members it has worldwide, Amazon says that it added a million new Prime members during the week before Christmas alone.
