Aquarium Heaters Sold at PetSmart Recalled for Electric Shock Risk

PetSmart is recalling about 33,000 aquarium heaters because they pose an electrical shock risk. The Top Fin brand plastic aquarium heaters are insufficiently grounded, increasing the chance that fish lovers may get zapped.

PetSmart sold the heaters nationwide from March 2014 through April 2014 for between $27 and $37. Customers can return the heaters to any PetSmart for a full refund.

The recall involves all 50-, 100- 150, 200- and 250-watt heaters. Affected model numbers include: HT50, HT100, HT150, HT200 and HT250. The recalled aquarium heaters will also have one of the follow lot numbers: 1839, 1901, 1903, 1904, 1907, 1908 or 1910.
