Volkswagen Group of America is recalling nearly 25,000 model year 2016-2017 Audi Q3 vehicles as a result of a brake light issue.

What's the problem?

If the parking brake is used during emergency braking, the brake lights on the vehicle will not activate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

If the brake lights do not illuminate—a vehicle approaching from behind may not have any warning that the vehicle is stopping, increasing the risk of a crash.

What Happens Next?

Audi will notify owners of the recalled Q3 vehicles beginning in July 2017. Audi dealers will then update the vehicle's software to correct the problem at no cost to vehicle owners.
