NCCC cautions consumers to beware of charges within smart device apps. These charges often add up quickly, leaving the consumer with a large bill.

The issue has come to our attention due to recent complaints about the app 'Dragonvale,' available for a free download from iTunes. It is rated as being for ages four and up.

"You need to enter your password to download the app," says NCCC Vice President Brian Reitter. "You don't have to enter a password to make purchases inside the app. A four-year-old playing in this game might inadvertently make thousands of dollars worth of purchases."

NCCC also cautions consumers to use caution when downloading 'free' applications.

"Many of these free apps have hidden fees and hidden add-ons," continues Reitter. "Consumers should always be aware of what they are downloading."
