GCI Outdoor is recalling about 6,000 BleacherBack stadium seats for a defective backrest.

The company issued the recall after a report that the backrest broke, causing the user to fall 4 feet from the top of athletic bleachers, sustaining neck and back injuries.

The seats are made of a powder-coated steel frame, a stitched fabric backrest and a fabric-covered padded bottom. The purchase order (PO) number is on a small white tag under the product information label sewn inside the pocket on the back of the chair. A full list of recalled purchase order (PO) numbers can be found on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

They were sold nationwide online and at sporting goods stores, including Academy Sports and Outdoors, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Dick's Sporting Goods and Sports Authority from January 2013 to August 2014 for about $25.

Consumers should immediately stop using the chairs and contact GCI Outdoor for a free strap repair kit that includes installation instructions, an additional safety strap and a new warning sticker.
