BMW of North America has announced a recall affecting certain model year 2014-2017 BMW R1200GS and BMW R1200GS Adventure motorcycles.

Approximately 14,625 motorcycles are included in this recall.

What's the problem?

The fixed fork tube on the recalled motorcycles may separate from the pressed in seal plug that secures the tube to the upper triple clamp.

If the fork tube detaches from the sealing plug, the handling and stability of the motorcycle will be impacted. This could cause the driver to lose control—increasing the risk of a crash.

What happens next?

BMW will notify owners of the recalled R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure motorcycles beginning in early September 2017. BMW motorcycle dealers will then install an additional fixed fork tube bush. If the existing fork is sufficiently damaged, it will be replaced with a modified new part.

All repairs related to this recall will be made free of charge.
