BMW, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has announced a safety recall affecting a small number of BMWs and Mini Coopers due to a defective airbag.

This particular recall affects the 2014 BMW i3 manufactured on March 31, 2014 and the 2014 Mini Cooper Hardtop manufactured from February 2, 2014 through May 30, 2014.

The airbag inflator in these vehicles was not assembled correctly during the manufacturing process. Due to the nature of the defect, the airbag might not deploy or might not deploy properly if a crash were to occur.

BMW will notify owners and its dealers will replace the front passenger side airbag at no charge to the owner. Owners with questions about this recall or their vehicles should contact BMW customer service at (800) 525-7417 or a local dealer.
