BMW X5 and X6 Models Recalled Due to Leaking Power Steering Fluid
BMW of North America has announced a recall of 2012 X5 models equipped with a diesel engine along with all 2013 X5 and X6 models due to a potential power steering fluid leak.
Due to a machining error of the steering gear surface, power steering fluid in the affected vehicles may leak. Leaking power steering fluid could then spray onto hot exhaust parts, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.
BMW will notify the owners of any X5 or X6 models affected by the recall to arrange a free inspection at a local dealership. If necessary, the steering gear will also be replaced free of charge. For more information, owners can contact BMW toll-free at 800-525-7417.
Consumers can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
