Bosch Equipment Defect Causes Problems with Airbags, Ford and Chrysler Issue Recall
Ford and Chrysler are recalling various vehicles equipped with Restraint Control Modules made by Robert Bosch LLC, because a manufacturing error could cause circuits to short.
Depending on which circuits short, the seatbelts and airbags may not work in the event of a crash.
A malfunction indicator light (MIL) should illuminate to initially warn drivers of a failure.
The makes and models affected by the recall include:
- 2013-2014 Ford C-Max, Ford Fusion, Ford Escape, Lincoln MKZ
- 2014 Dodge Durango
- 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
According to Ford's recall notice, replacement parts are not currently available. Customers were sent an interim notice in November and will receive another notice once parts are available.
Chrysler did not specify whether parts were available or when customers will be notified.
