A towing manufacturer is recalling three bike carriers over safety concerns.

Cequent Consumer Products issued the recall for certain model Reese Explore Bike Carriers after the discovery that the pieces have cradles that may have been molded incorrectly. The part numbers included are 1392900 (two-bike trunk mount bike carrier), 1393100 (four-bike hitch mount bike carrier), and 6314400 (four-bike hitch mount bike carrier). These products were manufactured between Jan. 1, 2015 and July 17, 2015.

An incorrect mold on the cradle can cause it to rip and fail while in use. If the cradle fails, a bicycle on the cradle may partially or fully fall from the rack, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Cequent believes that about 2,700 bike carriers are affected.

Cequent will notify owners and will provide a cradle replacement kit. The recall is expected to begin in September 2015.

Owners may contact Cequent customer service at (877) 208-2573 for additional recall information.
