Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Vehicles Recalled Due to Stall Risk

Around 530 Malibu Hybrid vehicles are included in the recall

August 15, 2016

General Motors (GM) has announced the recall of certain model year 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid vehicles that were manufactured between October 27, 2015 and June 3, 2016. Approximately 530 vehicles are impacted.

The recalled Malibu Hybrids have a shut-off switch for the high voltage battery for use when servicing the vehicle. This manual service disconnect switch (MSD) may not be properly installed and thus may not lock into position, unexpectedly disconnecting the high-voltage power while driving, effectively stalling the vehicle.

A sudden vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners of the recalled Chevrolet Malibu vehicles, and local dealers will inspect the MSD and correct the installation, free of charge. The manufacturer has yet to provide an owner notification schedule for this recall.
