Chrysler has issued a recall affecting approximately 1.15 million model year 2015-2017 RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate and either a 5 foot by 7 inch or a 6 foot by 4 inch bed.

What's the problem?

The tailgate actuator limiter tab on the recalled trucks may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while the vehicle is being driven.

If the tailgate latch releases and the tailgate opens while the vehicle is in motion, cargo may fall out of the bed, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

What happens next?

Owners of the impacted RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks will be notified by Chrysler in September 2018. RAM dealers will make the necessary repairs to the recalled trucks free of charge.

Vehicle owners with additional questions or concerns about this recall should contact Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403.

The reference number for this recall is U74.
