Violation of a federal motor vehicle safety standard has prompted Chrysler to recall more than 240,000 model year 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles.

What's the problem?

The Manual Park Release (MPR) plug on the affected Pacifica vehicles may be removed without a tool. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection."

If the MPR is engaged unintentionally, the vehicle could roll away, striking and injuring bystanders or causing a crash.

What happens next?

Chrysler will notify owners of the recalled Pacifica vehicles beginning in early August 2018. Local dealers will then replace the MPR plug, free of charge.
