Chrysler Recalls 2018-2019 RAM 1500 Trucks That May Not Have Enough Axle Fluid
The rear axle may seize, possibly causing a crash
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 RAM 1500 trucks. The rear differential may have been insufficiently filled, possibly resulting in rear wheel lock-up or a loss of drive.
What's the problem?
The vehicles may have been built with a rear axle assembly with an inadequate oil level, which may cause the axle gears and bearings to generate excessive heat and wear. If this were to happen, it would create a whine or growling noise and the rear axle may fail prematurely. A rear axle assembly that fails prematurely may result in rear wheels that lock up or a loss of drive, possibly causing a crash. About 4,171 vehicles are affected.
What happens next?
Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will inspect the rear axle oil level. Rear axles with an insufficient amount of oil will be replaced free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin October 12, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U88.
