Toyota is recalling s about 1.1 million U.S. SUVs for a defective seatbelts. Worldwide, nearly 3 million Rav4 SUVs are impacted.

The recall includes certain model year 2006-2012 RAV4 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV SUVs. In the event of a severe front-end crash, there is a possibility that the second row lap-belt-webbing could be cut by a portion of the metal seat cushion frame and separate.

If this occurs, the seat belt may not properly restrain the passenger, which could increase the risk of injury.

Owners of the involved vehicles will receive notification by first class mail. Toyota dealers will add resin covers to the metal seat cushion frame at no cost.

Customers with questions about the recall can contact Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331.
