Defective Trailer Light Modules Prompt RAM ProMaster Recall
The recall also applies to light modules sold separately for installation
An exterior lighting issue has prompted a recall from Chrysler.
The automaker has announced that it is recalling about 1,600 model year 2014-2016 RAM ProMaster vehicles and 2015-2016 ProMaster City vehicles. The trailer tow lighting control module may have a software error on the affected vehicles and can prevent illumination of the trailer brake lights during brake actuation.
Trailer brake lights that are inoperative reduce visibility for nearby vehicles, and can increase the risk of a crash.
In addition, the company is recalling about 600 RAM ProMaster trailer light modules, part number 68229650AB, that were sold separately for installation.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Trailer Tow Light Control Module, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.
