An automobile component manufacturer is issuing a recall due to products that could impair braking ability.

Meritor, Inc. is recalling certain Meritor EX225L2, EX225L+, and Bendix ADB22X axles. The affected axle assemblies have caliper bolts that may not have been properly tightened, allowing the caliper mounting bolts to back out and the caliper to detach from the axle flange.

In the event that the caliper detaches from the axle flange, braking performance would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

Meritor is recalling about 260 axles they believe to be impacted to this defect.

Meritor will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased the axles. The vehicle manufacturers will notify owners, and their dealers will inspect the caliper bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 30, 2015.

Owners with questions about the recall can contact Meritor customer service at (866) 668-7221.
