Special Commodities is recalling a specific lot of dry roasted almonds because they may contain unlisted cashews. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashews run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product.

The potentially affected product comes from lot number 1050188-1-16007. This number can be found on the side of the 25 pound cardboard carton in which the almonds were shipped.

The recalled dry roasted almonds were distributed between January 26, 2016 and February 16, 2016 to six customers in Arizona, California and Colorado. The cartons were distributed to other food production companies for further processing and packaging—they are not distributed directly to consumers for sale in retail outlets.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

An investigation indicated that the problem was caused by a temporary process breakdown by a third-party, contract manufacturer that processed and packaged the dry roasted almonds in question—which were inadvertently mixed with cashews during processing.
