Hercules Tire and Rubber Company is recalling several tire models due to safety concerns.

The Findlay, OH-based manufacturer announced the decision after reports that its tires may experience a tread separation. This type of defect can result in a sudden air loss in the tire, increasing the risk of a crash. The affected tires are designed for use in sport utility vehicles.

Hercules is recalling the following models: Trac A/T tires, sizes 235/70R16 106T, 235/75R15 109T XL, 245/70R16 107T, 255/70R16 111T, 265/70R16 112T, 265/75R16 116T and 275/70R16 114T. The firm believes that approximately 90,000 of the recalled tires were sold.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, the company will replace the tires with an updated version that features a full nylon cap, as opposed to the partial nylon cap on the originals.

Hercules will notify affected owners, and dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in 2015. Owners may contact Hercules at (888) 943-2402.
