EPA Announces New Label for Cleaning Products that Meet Strict Safety Standards
A new product label is expected to make it easier to find cleaning products that are safer for people, pets and the environment.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is unveiling its new Safer Choice Label for products that are first reviewed by agency scientists to ensure that every ingredient they contain meets strict human health and environmental standards.
About 2,000 products already qualify for the label.
The Safer Choice program is far from new; for the past 15 years the label has been known as the Design for the Environment, or DfE label. The agency unveiled the new label after a year of collecting public comments and having discussions with product manufactures and environmental and health advocates.
The label is scheduled to begin appearing on products this summer.
