Brewing that reliable first cup of tea in the morning can turn into an adventure if you are using certain Epoca models.

Epoca International has issued a recall for its PTKG-4420 and PTKB-4420 glass whistle kettle due to the threat of broken glass. When heated, the bottom portion of the glass vessel has been known to break, causing lacerations or serious burns.

Epoca is recalling about 113,000 kettles.

Nine incidents have been reported, including three injuries and one claim of $200 in property damage.

The product is a two-quart clear glass round kettle with no markings on the glass. The PTKG model has a green handle and lid, while the PTKB has a black handle and lid.

The product has been available since January 2012, retailing at Kitchen Collection, Meijer, Peyton Phoenix, Ross Stores, and Target and online at amazon.com, primulaproducts.com, and target.com.

Epoca recommends that consumers stop using the product immediately and return it to the retailer. Alternatively, customers can contact Epoca for instructions on how to receive a full refund.

Epoca can be reached at (800) 241-7940.
