Excessive Levels of Lead Prompt Monkey Glockenspiel Recall

February 8, 2016

A musical instrument manufacturer is issuing a recall for an item due to excessive levels of lead.

KHS America is recalling the Green Tones Monkey Glockenspiel. The children's instrument features eight metal bars in multiple colors mounted on a wooden base shaped like a monkey. The paint on the pink bar may contain high lead levels, violating the federal lead paint standard. If the paint is scraped off and ingested, it can cause negative health complications.

The pink bar is the only aspect of the instrument that needs to be replaced. The Green Tones logo is stamped on the back of the glockenspiel and the tracking number HS0178410914 is printed in black at the bottom.

Consumers could purchase this product at independent toy and music retailers and online from January 2015 through September 2015 for about $40.

About 150 of the affected glockenspiels were sold.

Consumers should immediately remove the pink bar from the glockenspiel and contact the company for information on getting a free replacement pink bar.

Customer with questions about this recall can contact KHS America at (800) 283-4676.
