Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced a recall for school buses due to an electrical defect.

The manufacturer's recall applies to certain model year 2012-2017 Thomas Built Minotour school buses built on a General Motors (GM) chassis. The affected school buses have a body control module that may fail, resulting in intermittent or total loss of exterior lighting or windshield wiper function.

Loss of exterior lighting or windshield wiper function can decrease visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

The company believes that about 2,300 buses are affected by this defect.

DTNA will notify owners of the recalled buses, and dealers will modify the wiring to the body control module, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin on April 18, 2016.

Owners with questions about the recall can contact DTNA customer service at (800) 745-8000.
