Honda has issued a recall for sedans with potentially defective airbags.

The automaker is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Accord vehicles. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrect passenger frontal airbag module that does not comply with the advanced airbag requirements. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

An airbag module that does not meet the advanced airbag requirements can increase the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash.

The manufacturer is including about 11,500 vehicles in this recall.

Honda will notify owners of the recalled vehicles, and dealers will inspect and replace the airbag module as necessary, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin on May 5, 2016.

Owners with questions about the recall can contact Honda customer service at (800) 999-1009.
