Faulty Airbag Deployment Leads to Recall from Kia Motors
Only 17 vehicles are impacted by this defect
Kia Motors has issued a recall for vehicles with defective airbags.
The manufacturer is recalling certain model year 2016 Kia Optima vehicles. In these vehicles, the driver's front airbag may be missing a chemical enhancer required for the second-stage airbag deployment, resulting in the airbag deploying improperly during certain crashes.
An airbag that inflates improperly increases the risk of injury.
The defect exists in only 17 vehicles, according the manufacturer.
Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal airbag module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in May 2016.
Owners with questions about this recall can contact Kia customer service at (800) 333-4542.
