Vehicles from Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) with defective axles are now subject to a recall.

DTNA is voluntarily recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, and Western Star 4900 vehicles. All affected models are equipped with drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington. These axles have hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been properly tightened.

If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle, resulting in a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.

DTNA is including more than 40 trucks in this recall.

The company will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hex nuts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 16, 2016.

Owners with questions about this recall can contact DTNA customer service at (800) 745-8000 and Marmon-Herrington customer service at (502) 253-0277.
