Faulty Parking Brake Leads to Recall from Newmar Corporation

October 22, 2015

A parking brake defect is prompting a recall from a recreational vehicle manufacturer.

Newmar Corporation announced this week that it is recalling certain model year 2016 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport and Canyon Star motorhomes. In the affected vehicles, the parking brake actuator may be out of calibration. This can cause the parking brake to hold the vehicle improperly, even when the brake pedal is fully depressed.

Additionally, the parking brake may not disengage completely when the parking brake pedal is released.

If the parking brake does not fully engage, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of personal injury or a crash. A parking brake that drags may result in a wheel end fire.

Newmar believes that 86 motorhomes may be impacted.

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake foot pedal assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

Owners with questions about the recall can contact Newmar customer service at (800) 731-8300.
