Chrysler has issued a recall for certain model year 2017 Fiat 500X vehicles.

If one of the affected vehicles has a tire with low pressure, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light may not illuminate to alert the driver. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."

Driving a vehicle with an underinflated tire may result in tire failure, which could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle—increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler says that approximately 278 Fiat 500X vehicles are impacted by this recall.

Fiat will notify owners of the recalled vehicles, and dealers will update the instrument panel software free of charge.

This recall is expected to begin on April 21, 2017. Vehicle owners with additional questions can contact Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403.

Chrysler's reference number for this recall is T16.
