About 390,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled in North America for doors that could swing open unexpectedly.

The door latch in certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Fiestas and model year 2013-2014 Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZ vehicles may have a broken pawl spring tab, which prevents the door from latching.

In a press release Ford said it was aware of two injuries caused by an unlatched door bouncing back when the customer attempted to close it, and one instance of an unlatched door swinging open and hitting another car as the driver was pulling into a parking space.

An investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received more than 60 reports concerning door latches on Ford Fiestas. Of those, 12 allege that the door opened after it was shut and the driver started their route.

Ford later provided to ODI more than 450 unique reports related to the defect and about 1,080 warranty claims related to door latch failures.

Dealers will replace all four door latches at no cost to the customer.
