A dog food brand designed to combat your pup's flatulence is being recalled due to an "off odor" smell.

Dave's Pet Food, an independent retailer, is recalling Dave's Simply the Best Dog Food. The recall applies only to bags that feature a best-used-by date of 10/16/2016.

The company claims that the foul smell stems from a bad batch of rice flour and ensures customers that no health or safety issues exist.

According to Southern Tier Pet Nutrition, co-packer of the product, an analysis of the affected product revealed that peroxide value in the dog food was high. This condition can lead to rancidity. No outdated materials were used in production, and the exact reason for the unfortunate reaction is unclear.

Dave's will provide a full refund to customers who return tainted product to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about the can contact the company by phone at (888) 763-2738 and by email at dave@davespetfood.com.
