Fragile Backrest Prompts Chair Recall from Room & Board

Room & Board has announced a recall for a chair with a faulty backrest.

The home furnishings manufacturer is voluntarily recalling its Doyle arm chairs and side chairs. The backrest can break during normal use, posing a laceration hazard to the user. The company has received 10 incident reports of the chair backrest breaking, including one report of a scratch.

The recalled chairs are wooden and sold with and without an upholstered seat and in five different finishes: charcoal, cherry, maple, shell and walnut. Each chair has a barcode printed on a label located under the seat on the inside of the seat frame. Room & Board–Handcrafted in Vermont is inscribed on the seat frame next to the barcode.

Consumers could purchase these items at Room & Board stores nationwide and online at from May 2015 through December 2015. The arm chairs sold for between $350 and $520, while the side chairs sold for between $300 and $400.

Owners should immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact Room & Board ‎to receive a free replacement chair or a full refund of the purchase price. Room & Board is contacting its known customers directly‎.
