Freedman Seating Company has announced a recall for potentially unsafe bus seats.

The manufacturer is recalling about 800 Family Seat, Family 3pta, and ICS seats. Due to bolt failure, the affected seats may separate from the base frame. As a result, these seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety System (FMVSS) number 222, "School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection."

In the event of a crash, the seat may separate from the base frame, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

Freedman will notify the bus manufacturers that purchased the affected seats and will provide new, replacement seats free of charge. Freedman began notifying the affected bus manufacturers on April 15, 2016. The bus manufacturers will conduct recalls to notify the bus owners and provide them with a free remedy.

One of these affected manufacturers is Forest River. The RV and bus manufacturer is recalling about 25 buses that are equipped with the faulty seats.

The recalled buses include:

  • 2015-2016 Starcraft Prodigy school buses
  • 2015-2016 Starcraft Quest school buses
  • 2016 StarTrans Senator II transit buses
  • 2016 Glaval Entourage transit buses
  • 2016 Glaval Universal transit buses
  • 2016 Elkhart ECE4 transit buses

The recall from Forest River is expected to begin on June 14, 2016.
