Chrysler has announced a recall for SUVs with potentially compromised brakes.

The manufacturer is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. The left front brake caliper on the recalled vehicles was made from an incorrect material, which may cause it to crack.

A cracked brake caliper may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.

About 15,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles are potentially affected by this recall.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front left brake caliper and depending on its casting date, replace it, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule.

Owners with questions about this recall can contact Chrysler customer service toll-free at (800) 853-1403.
