JetBlue Adding Ticket Classes and Baggage Fees, Taking Away Leg Room
It will soon cost some JetBlue passengers if they want to check a bag. The airline announced on Wednesday that, beginning in mid-2015, passengers will choose between three ticket classes.
Passengers that book tickets in the cheapest ticket class will have to pay an additional fee to check a bag. The airline has yet to disclose how much that fee will be.
In addition to the new baggage fee, JetBlue also announced that, beginning in late 2016, it will be adding 15 seats to its Airbus A320 aircraft. This will increase each plane's seating capacity from 150 to 165, and reduce each passenger's legroom by more than an inch.
In a meeting with investors on Wednesday, JetBlue said that it expects the baggage fee and added seating capacity to bring in an additional $300 million per year in income.
