Label Featuring Incorrect VIN Leads to Mitsubishi Recall
An improper label has prompted a small recall from Mitsubishi.
The automaker announced last week that it would be voluntarily recalling certain model year 2011 Outlander Sport vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with incorrect certification labels that were installed during manufacturing. The incorrect labels do not have the correct vehicle identification numbers (VINs) printed on the label.
These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a vehicle must comply with all regulatory requirements to ensure that it is safe.
The company has only included two vehicles in this recall.
Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will install corrected certification labels, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.
Owners with questions about the recall can contact Mitsubishi customer service at (888) 648-7820.
