ZF Group North America has announced a recall for a defective auto part.

The subsidiary of the German automaker is recalling certain Control Arms, including model numbers 0501 218 145, and 0501 211 327. The hot crimping that connects the tube ends to the control arm joint housing shafts may crack, causing the tube to separate from the shaft.

Should the tube crack and separate from the shaft of the vehicle, loss of vehicle control is possible, increasing the risk of a crash.

ZF Group believes that about 40 control arms are potentially defective.

The company will notify dealers and exchange all affected parts with new parts, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

Owners with questions about this recall can contact ZF Group customer service at (734) 416-6200.
