Mercedes-Benz is recalling about 10,500 new vehicles due to a defective coupling interlock mechanism.

If the steering coupling interlock mechanism is not locked in place in the affected model year 2015 C300 4Matic and C400 4Matic vehicles, the sliding shaft could become disengaged from the steering coupling socket.

This can be caused by vibrations, steering thrust or load feedback.

As a result the driver may experience noises, steering backlash and loss of steering control.

Mercedes-Benz has already notified owners affected of the recall. Dealers will inspect the steering coupling interlock mechanism free of charge.

For more information, owners can contact customer service at (800) 367-6372. Mercedes-Benz' number for this recall is 2014090008.
