Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling more than 8,000 model year 2016-2017 G550 4Matic, G63 AMG, and G65 AMG vehicles.

What's the problem?

On the affected vehicles, due to a malfunction of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), the engine may fail to reduce power—regardless of the vehicle's speed, driving situation, or brake application.

If this situation occurs, increased braking effort and/or shifting to neutral would be needed to stop the vehicle, lengthening the distance needed to stop and increasing the risk of a crash.

What happens next?

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify owners of the recalled vehicles beginning in December 2017. A Mercedes dealer will then reprogram the ESP control unit software at no cost to vehicle owners.
