New Ford C-Max Hybrid Beats Toyota Prius in Gas Mileage
The Toyota Prius better watch its back. Ford Motor Company's sleek new C-Max hybrid has bested the Prius in gas mileage performance.
The C-Max gets 47 miles per gallon (mpg) both on the highway and in the city. This is notably better than the Prius, which gets a combined 42 mpg.
Ford made the C-Max gas mileage announcement after its claims were certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The C-Max is Ford's first hybrid-only vehicle. It's intended to compete directly with the Prius. The C-Max also starts at about $1,300 less than the Prius V, at $25,200.
Ford has announced that it will also offer plug-in hybrid and electric versions of the C-Max. The company says the plug-in hybrid will go up to 85 miles per hour in all-electric mode, or 20 miles per hour higher than the plug-in Prius.
The C-Max officially goes on sale to the public later this fall. The plug-in version will also be available in 19 U.S. markets at that time. Ford plans to offer it in all 50 states by early next year.
