New Recall from Volkswagen Addresses Fire Risk in Atlas Vehicles
The fuel tank on these vehicles may have been manufactured with insufficient wall thickness
Volkswagen Group of America (VW) has issued a recall for certain model year 2018 Atlas vehicles.
What's the problem?
The fuel tank on the affected vehicles may have been manufactured with insufficient wall thickness, potentially resulting in the tank leaking fuel. Because of this issue, these vehicles fail to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 301, "Fuel System Integrity."
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
What happens next?
Volkswagen will notify owners of the recalled Atlas vehicles beginning in late December 2017. VW dealers will replace the fuel tank at no cost to vehicle owners.
