UPDATED: Faulty Spartan Motors Chassis Prompts Recall from Two Manufacturers
An engine failure has prompted a recreational vehicle recall from two motorhome manufacturers.
Newmar Corporation announced this week that it would be voluntarily recalling certain model year 2010 Dutch Star motorhomes, 2010 Dutch Aire motorhomes, and 2012-2013 King Aire motorhomes. The affected vehicles are built on a Spartan Motors chassis and have a flexible exhaust tube that may tear, which allows hot exhaust to blow against other components. If hot exhaust gas contacts other components or materials, it can increase the risk of a fire.
Additionally, Entegra Coach is recalling certain model year 2010 Anthem and 2012-2014 Cornerstone motorhomes with Spartan Motors Chassis due to the same issue.
Newmar believes that 165 of its recreational vehicles are impacted by this defect. Entegra is recalling 99 motorhomes.
Newmar and Entegra will notify owners, and Spartan dealers will install a new exhaust tube, free of charge.
The Newmar recall is expected to begin November 13, 2015, while there is no notification schedule available from Entegra.
Owners with questions can contact Newmar customer service at (800) 731-8300 or Spartan customer service at (800) 543-4277. Entegra has instructed owners to contact Spartan directly.
