The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an official investigation into the 2007-2009 Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia as the result of a 2011 petition from NCCC.

The original petition was submitted after receiving numerous complaints from concerned consumers reporting frequent loss of low beam headlamp illumination. In many cases, the wiring harness inside the headlamp assembly was overheating and subsequently melting.

Since April of 2008, NHTAS's Office of Defect Investigations (ODI) has received a total of 415 consumer complaints regarding similar occurrences with the 2007-2009 GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook.

ODI will now review all available data to assess whether or not a safety defect investigation is warranted. If that determination is made, additional steps will be taken at that time.
