Panasonic Battery Packs for Fujitsu Notebook Computers and Workstations Pose Fire and Burn Hazards
The lithium-ion battery packs can overheat and potentially catch fire
Fujitsu has announced a recall affecting approximately 6,400 Panasonic battery packs used in Fujitsu notebook computers and workstations.
The lithium-ion battery packs can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers.
This recall involves Panasonic lithium-ion battery packs used in the following Fujitsu notebook computers and workstations: CELSIUS H720, LIFEBOOK E752, E733, E743, E753, P702, P772, S710, S752, S762, T732, T734, and T902.
Product numbers for the recalled battery packs are: CP556150-03, CP579060-01, and CP629458-03. Serial numbers included in the recall are (first seven digits): Z130119, Z130120, Z130131 - Z130205, Z130129, Z130130, Z130131, Z130221, Z130304, Z130306, and Z130301 - Z130407.
The product and serial numbers are printed on a white sticker affixed to the battery.
Where and When were they sold?
The affected Fujitsu notebook computers and Panasonic battery packs were sold online at shopfujitsu.com from July 2012 through December 2017. The battery packs were sold individually, as well as with the Fujitsu computers and workstations.
To date, Fujitsu has received one report of a battery pack catching fire.
What should consumers do?
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled battery packs, power off the laptop, remove the battery, and contact Fujitsu at (800) 835-4878 to receive a free replacement battery pack.
Until a replacement battery pack is received, consumers should use the laptop by plugging in AC power only.
