Salmonella can cause serious—sometimes fatal—infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others who have weak immune systems. Those who are healthy and infected often experience symptoms such as fever, potentially-bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, salmonella infection can lead to the organism getting into the bloodstream, leading to more severe sicknesses like arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
Consumers who bought the recalled Jalapeño Flavored Lay's Kettle Cooked potato chips or Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie's Kettle Cooked potato chips should not consume them. The company is working with the FDA to make sure the impacted products are removed from store shelves and not distributed in the future.
