Potentially Fatal Air Bag Defect Prompts Recall of Ford Ranger Vehicles
Approximately 2,700 Ranger trucks are affected
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2006 Ford Ranger trucks.
What's the problem?
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode, causing sharp metal fragments to enter the passenger cabin. These metal fragments could strike vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Approximately 2,700 Ford Ranger trucks are affected by this recall.
What happens next?
Ford will notify owners of the recalled vehicles beginning in mid-January 2018. Owners will be instructed not to drive their trucks until the passenger's frontal air bag inflator has been replaced by a Ford dealer. This repair will be completed free of charge.
